DREAMFINDER NEWS - FEB 2011
Its been a while again-in fact 4 whole months! As usual my excuse is that I have been too busy but of course that's no excuse! I could also make the excuse of working on DOCTORS again from October through to December and whilst that's more of an excuse it's still not really good enough, but I will attempt to summarise the last 4 months.
SOULBOY (www.soulboyfilm.co.uk) had a very successful release in the Autumn often playing to sold out cinemas and was very well received. I did Q&A's at the Courtyard in Hereford, the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury and an introduction at the MAC in Birmingham. It won an award at a Spanish Film Festival, has sold to Australia, New Zealand and Germany and also secured an airline deal. It came out on DVD on January 3rd and sold over 7,000 units in its first week. So for a film of its size its doing really well. It's screening again on March 1st as part of the Stoke Your Fires Festival of Moving Image (www.stokeyourfires.co.uk) and then on April 7th at Wem Town Hall as part of the Borderlines Film Festival. It continues to present a fantastic learning experience for me and each time I see audiences really enjoying it I get a real thrill because for me that's why I do what I do.
TURBULENCE, (www.turbulencefilm.com) meanwhile, is in the thick of post production. Michael, Director, and Nat, Editor and post production supervisor worked tirelessly through the Autumn to deliver a 1st cut for comments in November and then a revised 1st cut for viewing by potential completion financier in December. The performances and the production values are amazing and now we are working on some pick up scenes which we hope will add richness and clarity to the story. We are having a test screening in Stoke on 16th Feb from 16.30-18.45, so if you are reading this and you are aged 16-24 and reading this please e-mail me, Natasha@dreamfinder.net, and I'll give you the details. We are hoping to have completion finance in place very soon and then to be able to push on and have a finished film by the summer.
Meanwhile things are moving well with DEADLOCK and THE LAST WITNESS, 2 thrillers that I am financing at the moment. I am going to Berlin at the end of this week to try and find more partners to make both these films happen.
I had an amazing day with the legendary Kate Leys on the Guiding Lights programme. It was all about the pitch and fundamentally all about story. It reminded me of some of the basics and was utterly inspiring.
The really big news of the last 6 months is that I have set up a new company with another producer called Carol Harding. The company is called Vicarious Dreams and it sees us putting all our projects together in one new company. We will both continue to have our own companies for the work we do as individuals but from now on nearly all projects will become Vicarious Dreams projects. If you would like to know more about this new venture check out www.vicariousdreams.com
Of course there's so much more to tell but above are the headlines and if you are interested to read my new blog its http://natashacarlish.posterous.com/
So what will 2011 bring? Am aiming for one completed film, one financed film and a new company on its way to being successful-but whatever happens I will never forget the mighty Dreamfinder,-9 in April.
Finally top films to see: The Fighter, Black Swan, The Kings Speech, 127 Hours, Winter's Bone, Never Let Me Go, Brighton Rock, The Kids Are All Right and Made in Dagenham. |
